Overview
Indigenous tracked infantry fighting vehicle of the Republic of Korea Army, notable for its amphibious capability and powerful armament. Mounts a 40mm Bofors L/70 autocannon in an enclosed turret — one of the most powerful IFV armaments in service — with twin Hyundai WIA anti-tank missile launchers for Spike NLOS engagement. Features a composite armour hull with aluminium-fibreglass-steel layered construction, NBC protection, and battlefield management system. Weight of 25.6 tonnes with a Doosan D2840LXE 750 hp diesel engine providing a road speed of 70 km/h. Amphibious with waterjets providing 6 km/h water speed — critical for operations around the many Korean river crossings. Carries 3 crew plus 9 dismounts. Over 500 in Republic of Korea Army service, forming the primary mechanised infantry platform.
