Overview
The HQ-19 is China's next-generation advanced upper-tier ballistic missile defense system, designed to intercept medium and intermediate-range ballistic missiles at high altitudes. It fills the role equivalent to the American THAAD system, complementing the lower-tier HQ-9B and providing the PLA with a layered ballistic missile defense capability. The HQ-19 uses a hit-to-kill kinetic interceptor.
