Canadian Arctic and offshore patrol vessel representing dedicated Arctic sovereignty capability for Royal Canadian Navy. Programme procuring 6-8 Harry DeWolf-class ships (Arctic and Offshore Patrol Ships) specifically designed for Arctic operations. Features ice-strengthened hull enabling operations in first-year ice, 25mm gun, helicopter deck, capacity for 65 personnel, sensors for surveillance. Range of 6,800 nm. Not heavily armed but enables presence and patrol in Arctic waters opening due to climate change. First ships commissioned 2020-2023 with continued deliveries. Provides visible Canadian Arctic presence, supports other government departments, conducts sovereignty patrols. Domestic construction in Halifax provides economic benefits. Addresses capability gap for Arctic operations beyond icebreaker capacity.
