Hamina Class Missile Boat

Overview

Finnish fast attack craft featuring stealth design and heavy anti-ship missile armament — representing the final evolution of Finnish missile boat concepts developed during the Cold War. Four boats in class: Hamina, Tornio, Kotka, and Pori (commissioned 1998-2006). Displacement of 250 tonnes with length of 51 metres. The Hamina class features composite (glass-fiber reinforced plastic) superstructure for reduced radar cross-section, angular stealth shaping, 4x RBS 15 Mk2 anti-ship missiles (upgraded to Mk3 Gabriel V in 2020s), Bofors 57mm gun, Mistral short-range SAMs, depth charges, and comprehensive electronic warfare suite. Powered by three diesel engines providing 30+ knots. The small size and stealth characteristics enable operations close to enemy coastlines and within archipelagos where larger vessels cannot safely operate. Finnish doctrine emphasizes dispersed operations with missile boats operating independently or in small groups from concealed island bases, ambushing enemy naval forces transiting choke points. Recent modernization included RBS 15 replacement with Gabriel V missiles (200+ km range), upgraded combat management system, new electronic warfare, and Link 16 datalink for networking with air force and NATO assets.
