Overview
Next-generation fully autonomous 155mm/52-calibre self-propelled howitzer representing the cutting edge of artillery automation. The Roem (Thunder) — also known as Sigma in export configuration — features a fully automated turret that can operate with zero crew members in the turret, loading, laying, and firing autonomously. The gun system receives digital fire missions, automatically selects ammunition from its onboard magazine, loads, aims, fires, and repositions without human intervention beyond mission authorization. Rate of fire of 6-9 rounds/minute with MRSI capability for simultaneous impact. Range of 41 km with standard ammunition and 56+ km with extended-range projectiles. The system integrates AI for autonomous fire planning and counter-battery response. Mounted on a tracked chassis derived from the Merkava platform for heavy cross-country mobility. The Roem represents the IDF's vision of unmanned ground combat systems and is considered the most automated operational artillery system in the world.
