Overview
Armoured Engineer Vehicle (Pionierpanzer Dachs) based on the Leopard 1 chassis, providing combat engineering support including obstacle clearance, route construction, and position preparation under armour. Equipped with a hydraulic excavator arm with 180-degree swing capability, dozer blade, and mine-clearing equipment. The excavator can dig fighting positions, clear rubble, and construct field fortifications. Protected against small arms and shell fragments with NBC system. Crew of 4 including two combat engineers. Weight of approximately 43 tonnes. Has been deployed on German Army overseas missions including Afghanistan and Mali. Being gradually supplemented by newer engineering platforms but remains a core capability of Bundeswehr pioneer battalions.
