Overview
German-Dutch 8x8 wheeled multi-role armored vehicle representing one of the most successful modern armored vehicle programmes with operators across NATO. Netherlands is original development partner alongside Germany and one of the largest operators with 200+ vehicles across multiple variants. The Boxer features modular mission system where different mission modules (IFV, APC, command, ambulance, recovery, engineer, mortar carrier, etc.) can be exchanged on common drive module in field conditions, providing unprecedented flexibility. Drive module includes 530 hp MTU diesel, independent suspension, central tire inflation system, amphibious capability with propellers, and modular armor providing STANAG Level 4-6 protection. Weight varies 25-38 tonnes depending on configuration. Road speed of 103 km/h with range exceeding 1,000 km. Dutch Boxer variants include infantry carrier (12 troops), command vehicle, ambulance, recovery, and potentially fire support with Lance 2.0 turret (30mm autocannon and Spike missiles). The Boxer proved exceptional performance in Afghanistan with Dutch, German, and British forces showing outstanding protection, mobility, and reliability. Netherlands operates Boxer as primary mechanized infantry vehicle replacing older YPR-765 (M113 derivative). Boxer provides Dutch rapid reaction forces with strategic mobility and tactical flexibility. Exported to Lithuania, UK, Australia, Slovenia, and others with ongoing production.
