AT4 Anti-Armor Weapon
Type: infantry_weapon
Domain: land
Country of Origin: Sweden
Manufacturer: Saab AB
First Deployed: 1987
Overview
Single-shot disposable anti-tank weapon adopted by over 30 countries including the United States as its primary light anti-armor weapon. The AT4 (Pansarskott m/86) fires an 84mm unguided rocket from a disposable fiberglass launcher tube weighing 6.7 kg. Effective range of 300 metres with penetration exceeding 420mm of rolled homogeneous armor — sufficient to defeat most light armored vehicles and infantry fighting vehicles. Multiple warhead variants include high-explosive anti-tank (HEAT), high-explosive dual-purpose (HEDP) effective against bunkers and buildings, anti-structure tandem-charge (AST) for fortified positions, and high-penetration (HP) for modern reactive armor. The confined space (CS) variant reduces backblast, enabling firing from enclosed spaces like buildings and bunkers. Simple operation (extend sights, remove safeties, aim, fire) enables rapid engagement by infantry under fire. US military has procured 600,000+ AT4s with production ongoing. Combat-proven in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Ukraine. Provides infantry squads with organic anti-armor capability without requiring dedicated anti-tank teams.
