ANZAC Class Frigate

Overview

Australian-designed frigate operated by Royal New Zealand Navy as primary surface combatants. New Zealand operates 2 ANZAC-class frigates (HMNZS Te Kaha and Te Mana) built 1990s alongside Australian Navy ANZACs. Features 5-inch gun, Sea Sparrow missiles, torpedoes, helicopter facilities, 3,600 tonne displacement. Underwent modernization mid-2010s to extend service life including new radar, communications, weapons upgrades. Provides New Zealand with multi-role warships for surveillance, presence, maritime interdiction, peacekeeping. However, aging platforms with replacement planning ongoing.
