Overview
The 2S19M2 Msta-S is Russia's primary self-propelled howitzer with 800+ in service — making it the world's most numerous SPH in active use. The M2 upgrade added GLONASS navigation for autonomous fire missions, Krasnopol laser-guided shell compatibility, and improved fire control. The 152mm/47-calibre gun achieves 25 km standard range and 30+ km with rocket-assisted projectile. Rate of fire is 7-8 rounds/minute. Russia has used the Msta-S intensively in Ukraine where it has been the primary counter-battery artillery platform but has also suffered significant losses to Ukrainian HIMARS GMLRS, M777/Excalibur, and M982 guided fire.
