Lockheed Martin Australia and German defense firm Rheinmetall are negotiating a deal to conduct sustainment and maintenance for the US-made HIMARS (High Mobility Artillery Rocket System) in Queensland, Australia. While the agreement is not finalized, it signals an effort to localize critical artillery capabilities closer to Indo-Pacific hotspots.

HIMARS, a key precision strike system used by major military powers including the US and its allies, has rapidly gained significance due to escalating tensions in Asia-Pacific. Rheinmetall, already expanding regional production, aims to leverage its Australian facilities to offer integral sustainment solutions alongside Lockheed's expertise.
