Aberdeen Marina Redevelopment Plans 200 Berths and Clubhouse
Hong Kong's Aberdeen site will undergo redevelopment introducing a 200-berth marina, clubhouse, and approximately 250 private residences by 2032. This initiative aims to enhance yacht tourism, with the government preparing to launch the first marina tender in four decades, reflecting significant market demand.
The Hong Kong Government has announced a significant redevelopment project for the Aberdeen area on the island’s southwest coast, aiming to boost its maritime tourism infrastructure. The plan includes constructing a new marina featuring 200 berths, accompanied by a clubhouse and the development of around 250 private flats. This initiative forms part of broader efforts to foster yacht tourism and related economic growth within the region.
The Development Bureau highlighted that a tender for this project is expected to be released in the first half of the coming year, marking the first marina procurement in nearly 40 years. The 1.16-hectare site near Po Chong Wan will be cleared to accommodate these new facilities, which are positioned to cater to increasing local and international demand for marine recreational services.
From a technical perspective, the marina will require advanced marine engineering to ensure safe berthing for vessels, proper water quality management, and integration with existing coastal infrastructure. The inclusion of a clubhouse is expected to provide essential support services including maintenance, storage, and hospitality for yacht owners and visitors.
Strategically, this development aligns with Hong Kong’s objectives to diversify its tourism portfolio and strengthen its position as a maritime hub in the Asia-Pacific region. The project also presents opportunities for private sector involvement, local economic stimulation, and potentially increased upscale residential development tied to marina lifestyle.
The government’s forthcoming tender will attract marine infrastructure developers and operators with expertise in marina management, urban coastal development, and hospitality services, reflecting a comprehensive approach to optimizing the site’s potential.
