SIG Sauer (Schweizerische Industrie Gesellschaft) is a German-American small arms manufacturer with origins in the Swiss arms industry. The US division (SIG Sauer Inc.) is headquartered in Newington, New Hampshire. SIG won the US Army's M17/M18 Modular Handgun System contract in 2017 — the largest US Army pistol procurement since 1985, replacing M9 Beretta. Also won the XM5 (M5) Next Generation Squad Weapon rifle and XM250 NGSW-AR light machine gun contracts in 2022, firing 6.8mm for improved lethality and range over 5.56mm M4/M249. SIG pistols are used by US Special Forces, German police, Canadian Army, and over 100 law enforcement agencies worldwide.
